Patch 3.3 – The Last Major Patch Before Cataclysm

Patch 3.3 will release in the coming weeks and is the last major content patch before the release of the expansion Cataclysm. The biggest piece of content is the Icecrown Citadel Raid along with three 5-player dungeons in the Frozen Halls. After over a year of waiting, players are finally able to fight the Lich King although it is not known if he is killable or not.

Icecrown Citadel consists of 4 floors and 12 boss encounters. On the second floor players will join their faction leader aboard their airship and fight the other faction’s airship to reach the third floor. Players can board the other factions airship with rocket packs while other players use catapults to destroy the enemy ship. The third floor is the biggest zone and also features the three 5-player dungeons. The fourth and last floor is where players will face the Lich King.

Besides the major content coming there will also be gameplay changes as well.

AoE Damage Caps: Blizzard has redesigned the way area of effect damage works when hitting multiple targets. Basically instead of a hard cap of damage done, you now do damage equal to the amount the spell would damage 10 targets. Anything more than 10 targets and the total damage will be divided by the number of targets. Say you have a spell that does 2000 damage for each target. That would be 20000 damage across 10 targets. If you have 20 targets that would turn into 1000 damage for each target.

Health and Mana Regeneration: The regeneration rates for these will increase by 200% for lower levels. Each new level will reduce the rates until they reach normal rates at level 15.

Battleground Daily Quests: Level 71-80 Battleground daily quests now reward 25 Arena Points along with current rewards.

World of Warcrat Cataclysm – Goblin Starting Area

Some Cataclysm footage is slowly starting to pop up around the internet. This video was taken from IgroMir 2009, which is Russia’s biggest gaming convention and shows off the goblin starting zone with a warrior and a shaman being played.

The video isn’t the best quality but it does look like the graphics have seen an improvement. Blizzard probably won’t allow this video to stay up for long so check it out now while you still can. Stay tuned for more Cataclysm info in the coming weeks.

Icecrown Citadel Preview

Icecrown Citadel is the latest dungeon for World of Warcraft and is set to be released with the 3.3 patch. Players will fight in the Lich King’s home base with other heroes including Highlord Tirion Fordring, High Overlord Saurfang, and Muradin Bronzebeard. Icecrown Citadel features 10 man and 25 man versions and each version has 12 encounters.

Another new feature being added to patch 3.3 is the ability for the player to switch between normal and Heroic mode on the fly. So you can now fight bosses you know you can beat on Heroic and then for one’s you struggle with you can fight on normal.

Icecrown Citadel consists of three parts: The Grand Entrance, The Wings of the Icecrown Citadel, and The Frozen Throne.

At the start of the dungeon players will face a legion of undead under the command of Lord Marrowgar, a monster fused together from the bones of the undead. The next boss is Lady Deathwhisper, Supreme Overseer of the Cult of the Damned. Once these two bosses are defeated the heroes of the Alliance and Horde end up outside the Citadel where their deep seeded hatred for each other begins the battle for the Rampart of Skulls. Depending on your faction you will fight for either High Overlord Saurfang on the Orgrim’s Hammer or Muradin Bronzebeard on The Skybreaker. Players will fight to destroy the other gunship while protecting their own to see who will continue the battle for Icecrown Citadel.

The Wings of the Icecrown Citadel are similar to Naxxaramas in that each wing has a series of bosses. Once all the wings are completed, players will then move on to the Frozen Throne. This is the battle players have waited for over a year now. The Lich King and his runeblade Frostmourne await those strong enough to reach him.

Along with the new dungeon players will be rewarded with new gear. Item levels start at 251 on normal and go up to 277 in the 25 man heroic version.

No release date has been given for Patch 3.3, but hopefully it will be sooner than later.
